Special Education
SPED Director- Latisha Rudd Boothe
Students with diverse learning needs are supported as they participate in the Quitman County School District experience. Students with a variety of special needs including learning difficulties, physical challenges, and emotional difficulties are served through special education services located in all of the district’s schools. Services are provided by special education teachers, classroom teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school nurses, counselors, paraprofessional staff, and others with specialized training and expertise. The Quitman County School District strives to provide every child a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. Students are provided as many opportunities as possible to be integrated in the regular classroom with their non-disabled peers. The administration and staff is dedicated to individualizing each child’s educational program to best meet their needs, allowing them to reach their greatest learning potential.
The Quitman County School District (QSCD) provides a free appropriate public education, including special education and related services to students with disabilities who, due to the disability, demonstrate an educational need for such services. To be eligible, a student must have been determined to have one or more of the disability conditions under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).

Friday, September 6, 2024, the Quitman County School District's Department of Special Education participated in an on-site Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) Professional Development with the Mississippi Department of Education's Dr. Sarieta Pollard.
