Superintendent's Message

Greetings Parents and Stakeholders:

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, the Quitman County School District has maintained a focus before anything else on the health, safety, and well-being of students, families, and school staff.  As we prepare for a possible reopening of schools this fall, we strive to maintain this same focus of concern.  We as a Nation, are faced with unprecedented challenges that are unlike any we have experienced in most of our lives. As a result, every decision we make must be carefully weighed to ensure that we maintain the precarious balance of providing an equitable education to all students, all while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

Together, the district has weathered many past storms, and this too shall pass.  However in the meantime, we need to hear from you, our parents and stakeholders regarding how you feel about students returning to school in some form this fall.  We are aware that some of the decisions we make may adversely affect many of our parents’ ability to provide adequate supervision for young students who will be home distant learning.  We are also aware that every home may not have digital devices or the appropriate degree of connectivity to internet services.  The survey that has been posted on our website and on Facebook on the Superintendent’s page is a tool that we will use to gather this information regarding the families we serve.  Please take 5 minutes to complete and submit the survey.  Your response will be a tremendous help as we move forward in developing our plan for return.

We realize many of you are anxious to receive a decision on our Return to School Plan.  Because the landscape of this Pandemic changes almost daily, we will publish this plan in full during the latter part of July.  Until this time, if you have specific questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at evelynjossell@qcsd.k12.ms.us, post a question on the Superintendent’s page, or call my office at 662-326-5451.

It is our sincere prayer that each of you remains safe and well as we navigate these unchartered waters.

Educationally yours,

Dr. Evelyn Jossell

Superintendent
