On behalf of the Quitman County School District, I would like to thank every parent, student, and community member who participated in the District’s Return to School Survey. We received over 350 responses from parents expressing their concern and opinion regarding how, and whether students should return to school this fall.
As a result of weeks of meeting, planning, and analyzing your responses, we feel that we have devised a plan built on the following basic pillars:
• Providing an environment that promotes student and staff safety, first and foremost
• Providing quality instructional support to ensure students continue to learn, and supports to close learning gaps caused by COVID-19
• Ensuring that all students receive the necessary social and emotional support whether at school or at home
• Providing parents with the necessary options and support so they won’t have the added burden of educating their children in the home and providing for the home.
To this end, Quitman County School District will return to school on August 10, 2020 using a Virtual Distant Learning format. After Labor Day, the district will employ a Hybrid Blended Return to School plan where students will return to school in a traditional manner but will be in small classes of 10-12 students, following CDC guidelines. Half of the students will be engaged in virtual learning at school, while the other half will receive face-to-face instruction. The groups will switch after two days so that all students will receive some form of face-to-face instruction. Fridays will be designated for remediation and focused intervention for all students. Parents who are still not comfortable sending their child(ren) to school due to COVID-19 concerns can opt to participate in a total virtual learning format. These parents must sign a waiver committing to virtual learning for the entire semester to ensure that we do not overpopulate buses. On-line registration will go live tonight in Active Parent, located on the school district’s website at www.qcschools.com, on each school's web-page. However, you will not be able to register your child until you receive a letter from your child’s school containing a unique number that will be needed to activate your Active Parent account. The option of choosing Virtual or Hybrid Blended for your child will be located on the online registration form and must be completed by July 22, 2020.
We have scheduled Zoom Meetings for Tuesday, July 14th and Thursday, July 16th to answer any questions you may have and to discuss the plan in more detail. Please check your school’s website to obtain log-in information.
In spite of the many challenges we face, we are looking forward to a great 2020/2021 school year and welcoming our scholars back to school!
